The most important thing about edibles is finding the correct dose, personal to you. For someone new to cannabis (or new to edibles), we recommend starting low and slow until your find your personal “sweet spot.”

Here’s what you should know while eating edibles

First, edibles go through the body’s first pass metabolism. When you eat an edible, an enzyme found in the liver converts Δ-9-THC, the main psychoactive compound found in cannabis, to 11-hydroxy-THC.

11-hydroxy-THC is a more potent compound that passes the blood-brain barrier quicker, giving edibles a more potent feel than smoking or vaporizing the same amount of THC, CBD goes through a similar process and converts into 7-hydroxy-CBD when ingested and processed through the liver.

How long do edibles take to kick in?

Edibles can take up to 2.5 hours to take effect. Sometimes they may take effect in 45 minutes, but it is never instantaneous. You may find you prefer different doses on different occasions, depending on what you’re looking to achieve.

You will need to keep track of the dose you’ve eaten, and the time it was consumed. We recommend using a stopwatch timer on your phone or keeping a journal and noting when you notice the edible takes effect.

How should you dose?

If you take a 5 mg edible and after 4 hours you don’t notice any effect, or it doesn’t produce the desired effect, we recommend increasing the dose 24 hours later.

After waiting 24 hours, we recommend you try 10 mg and repeat the process: set a timer and make note of the effects. Repeat this process, gradually increasing your dosage (try 20 mg the next day if 10 mg has no effect on you) until the desired effect is produced.

To avoid eating too high of a dose and having an uncomfortable euphoria, we do not encourage piling on edibles in one day/night intermittently until you know your dose. Always wait 24 hours to increase your dose.

Note: For those with a compromised GI tract, stomach issues, or removed organs, edibles may not be the most effective cannabis option. Browse today’s menu for comparable cannabis products!
