Do I need to go to my doctor again to renew my medical cannabis card?

If you have had your card for less than three years, you only need to extend your card online. The State has provided detailed information about extending your card.

If it has been three years since your last doctor’s certification, then you must get re-certified by an Illinois advanced practice nurse, physician assistant or physician.

If you need a doctor referral, you can sign-up through our Get a Card Page and we’ll provide an up-to-date list of healthcare professionals in the area that are sympathetic to medical cannabis patients.

NOTE: The state is no longer mailing physical cards to medical cannabis patients. Patients will access their medical card online via the Medical Cannabis Patient Portal.
